PROLOGUE: Penance

Following in his late father's footsteps, Kazuo Matsushima enlists into the Japanese Imperial Army, leaving behind his mother and his beloved fiancée as he sets sail for the Philippines with the mission to liberate the country from the Americans and bring honor to Japan and to his family.
Meanwhile, after a Japanese air raid in their hometown of Baguio City, Philippines, Juanita Cazatela and her family move to Manila, only to flee again from Japanese cruelty. Seeking refuge amongst Filipino and American forces in war-torn Bataan, Juanita finds solace in the arms of her American lover. But Fate remained unkind.
In the same peninsula, Kazuo battles with his own fate in a bid to uphold his honor and principles: a task made difficult by sin and treachery. Now a prisoner of guerillas, he must fight for survival, seek for atonement, and struggle against a love forbidden by times.
Under circumstances brought upon by the Second World War, lives intermingle in a saga of trust and loyalty, lies and betrayal, and one ultimate truth:
"Nothing but LOVE can conquer all."
